THE ORGANISATION

The Institute of Counselling was formed in 1970 to meet a growing need in the community for counsellor training. This initiative attracted a large and varied range of students who were interested and motivated to develop more effective communication and counselling skills to enhance their work. From these beginnings the reputation and expertise of the Institute grew.

Today, the Institute of Counselling is a registered higher education provider offering post graduate qualifications specialising in couselling education. The Institute is a not-for-profit organisation with a strong and proven commitment to quality adult education. The aim of the Institute is to provide students with a creative learning environment and a comprehensive foundation in counselling theory and practice integrated with both personal and professional development.

GOVERNANCE

The Institute is an incorporated association governed by a Board of Management responsible for implementing the strategic and operational management of the Institute and ensuring continuous improvement and quality assurance. The Academic Board oversees the educational mission of the Institute and is responsible for ensuring academic integrity and quality assurance in teaching and learning.

MANAGEMENT

The Institute is managed by its Director Alison Turner, and Academic and Administrative staff. For the delivery of its courses, the Institute draws on a Faculty of specialist consultant Lecturers and Group Facilitators.
